Art 'n Arch

By: Connie Ray and Cadie East

Today our task was to interview the art group with Wendy as the tutor.

The students were making mosaics out of cloth, threads, beads and pigments.

Charlotte who was one of the pupils picked out a picture that was modern but could be ancient as well. She said that she liked it because it had a lot of movement and she liked the pattern alot.

Another pupil called Connor was combining art and archaeology making a mosaic of a god out of beads and thread.

Another member of the group, Lauren, was in the process of making a fish. Lauren told me that the process of making a mosaic is sticking lots of little objects together to make an overall picture of something. You can use anything to make a mosaic.

After they had figured out what they were going to make, they started glueing things down which got a bit messy!

The pupils were getting a lot of ideas and help from their tutor, Wendy, who said that the children were getting their inspiration from modern day art that could also be ancient.

When they had all finished making their mosaics the students moved on to do something of their own, along the theme of sculptures.

Lauren was making a sculpture out of rope and strips of of cloth to make an ancient mummy.

Sasha was making a masterpiece also using rope and fake flowers.

The table was full of fantastic bits and bobs from cloths to buttons and buckles, to make absolutely anything!

Overall the the children were coming up with great ideas as well as having help from the tutor.
